High value vehicle owners urged to be vigilant issued by Essex Police
Police are urging owners of high value vehicles to be vigilant after three burglaries were reported where it appears the burglars may have been seeking keys to their vehicles.
Overnight between 10pm on October 31 and 5am on November 1, suspects gained entry to a property in Bridgend Close, South Woodham Ferrers. Stolen from inside was a purse, £30 cash and an Apple iPhone.
On the driveway was a new Audi A5.
Between midnight and 7.30am on November 1, suspects gained entry to a property in Five Acres, Danbury, by using an unknown implement to hook the keys through the letterbox. Stolen was a Dell laptop computer, sunglasses and an iPod nano in gold. During the search the keys to a white Audi TT and a white BMW 5 series were stolen from inside the premises and the vehicle removed from the driveway.
And between 10.30pm on November 2, and 7.50am this morning, Thursday, November 3, suspects broke in to a property in Hamberts Road, South Woodham Ferrers and stole a wallet as well as keys to a black Audi A5 convertible which was removed from the driveway.
DI Al Pitcher of the Central Division Target Offender Team in CID said: “I am linking all three of these offences which clearly demonstrate the motivation for breaking in to the properties was to steal the high-value cars sitting outside.
“I believe there may be a gang operating in the area and would urge all owners of new and high-value vehicles to remain vigilant.
“Place your car keys in a safe place: one which would not be obvious to a burglar and make sure your property is secure, particularly double locking UPVC doors. “Lock your vehicle, secure it in a garage if available and don’t leave anything of value inside it.”
